King's Castle ( Irish Caisleán an Rí , Ulster Scots Käng’s Kessel ) is a castle in Ardglass in County Down, Northern Ireland . It was originally built in the 12th century and expanded over the centuries. It was rebuilt true to the original in the 19th century after it had partially collapsed in 1830 during repair work on the foundations. The restoration was completed in 1988 and the castle reopened as a nursing home .

The Dublin Penny Journal of March 30, 1833 describes King's Castle as follows:

“(…) The largest of many old castles in Ardglass. It is colloquially called "King's Castle". It was a fortress of considerable size and strength, but currently it is very decrepit and in a state of decay. "
