The King's Quoit is an approximately 5000 year old portal tomb from the Neolithic and is located near the town of Manorbier in the county of Pembrokeshire in Wales . Systems of this type are known as quoits in Cornwall and Wales .

location

The Quoit is located in Manorbier Bay, right by the sea. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path runs past the megalithic complex . The hillside location of the King's Quoit is unusual for portal graves of this type. There are other such portal tombs nearby:

construction

The grave consists of three supporting stones that support a large capstone 4.5 m long and 2.7 m wide. The two front stones are about 1 m high. The rear bearing stone protrudes only a little from the earth due to the slope. The other end of the capstone rests directly on the ground. The chamber is 0.8 m high and is partially below ground level. The King's Quoit, like other portal tombs of this type, was apparently covered by a mound in the past. The bearing stones and the cover plate were then located inside the facility. Behind the quoit are individual megaliths that support the slope.
