King Size is an Austrian rock band . It was founded in 1989 by Tom "Major Tom" Proll and achieved international popularity in its career.

history

1989 - after the end of the band Life Wire - Proll founded the band King Size with ex-Life Wire bassist Chris Peter. After the demo release It's A Dirty Job and some line-up changes, the first permanent line-up was found in 1990 with Peter Patek (guitar), Gordon McMichael (bass) and Peter Wagner (drums). Chris Peter had meanwhile swapped his bass for the microphone and was also a great front man. In 1992 the sampler LP Steyr Schmiedet Töne was released , King Size contributed the song Hot Stuff . In the same year the debut album was also released on CD: No Message showed a street rock band in unbridled form, the album immediately brought the band into the top league of the Austrian rock scene, Austria's most important radio station Ö3 played songs from the album, asked the band for interviews to the studio in Vienna and at the end of 1992 the Ö3 music editors chose the album No Message in the list of “10 albums of the year”. After a long tour, he broke up with singer Chris Peter at the end of 1992. The new singer Roman Dolezal came from Budweis (Czech Republic) and used to sing for the band Harlem. Since a new tour was coming up, it was decided to record the CD Timeless with the new singer , which with Don't Say Goodbye brought the band the first No. 1 hit. In 1994 Time & Message was released , a double CD with the first two albums, which was made as a special tour edition and was only sold at concerts. In 1994 drummer Peter Wagner switched to Alkbottle. Drummer Mario Brodtrager came. In the same year the CD Here I Go Again was released and the title track was also on the cover Me sampler.

In 1995 the band was on tour constantly and had no time for studio recordings. So it was decided to publish some rare songs and outtakes on the album Rare Tracks . Years of touring followed, line-up changes (Mario Brodtrager first switched to Kingdom Come and later from there to Berlin-based Skew Siskin) and it wasn't until 1997 that the band could be found again on three samplers with new songs. In 1998 they also contributed to three more sampler songs and in 1999 the band released the album Greatest & Latest with the chart topping Show Me The Way . In the same year the band could be found on another sampler, the live album Live Stuff 101258 was released and when the bootleg King Size - Live In Minsk was found on a flea market , the illegal live recording was published itself. Roman Dolezal left the band and moved to Boston (USA). "Reverend" Klaus Niederhuber replaced him. The year 2000 began with three sampler contributions before the album Around and Around was released in August . On this album you can find the chartbusters Machinery , Change Your Mind , Could This Be Love and Second Skin . The song Second Skin received the award in the category “Best European Rock Song of the Year” at the 2001 Song Expo in Amsterdam. At the end of the year the compilation Rare Tracks 2 was released. Worldwide concert tours followed in 2001 and King Size contributed a song to the sampler The Best from the Wild West - 2001 Edition . Also in 2002 the band could be found on a sampler and in 2004 the live album Around the World was released . In 2006 the album Live Archive 1: Live At Vienna was released and a year later the album Live Archive 2: The Lost Tapes . 2008 was a dark year in the band's history: the singer of the founding formation, Chris Peter, died of an overdose of a drug cocktail. His drug addiction was the reason for his retirement in 1993. The cast began to shake, Major Tom Proll decided to put the band on hold for the time being.

Sporadic concerts, TV appearances, festival gigs etc. took place, but there was no new album in sight. A new line-up rehearsed the new songs that Tom Proll had written in 2010/2011, but the recordings of the planned album "Size Does Matter" never came back. In 2012 Tom Proll put the band on hold again, this time for health reasons. Meanwhile, the guitarist and “Mr. King Size "released four solo albums, with some king-size members on Daydreams & Fairytales (2011).

In 2014, the double CD Dangerous Girls & Beauty Queens was released for the 25th anniversary . In addition, a new record deal was signed with NRT Records.
