Kingidium
The division of living beings into systematics is a continuous subject of research. Different systematic classifications exist side by side and one after the other. The taxon treated here has become obsolete due to new research or is not part of the group systematics presented in the German-language Wikipedia.
The genus Kingidium belongs to the family of orchids (Orchidaceae). The genus name is currently a synonym for the genus Phalaenopsis , with which Kingidium was merged.
The botanical name Kingidium was chosen in honor of Sir George King (1840–1909), who made a special contribution to researching Indian orchids. The genus was originally described by Rolfe as Kingiella (1917). The name change became necessary because Kingella (Van Tiegh) was described 22 years earlier, a Malay genus of the Loranthaceae .
Taxonomy
The classification and belonging to the genus Kingidium has long been problematic. Depending on the literature sources, 2 to 10 species belonged to the genus. Different authors described all species as species of the genus Phalaenopsis . But not only the membership of the species in a genus was controversial, but also the subdivision within a species. Similar to Phalaenopsis pulcherrima , Kingidium concerns the species deliciosum , whose system is controversial.
