Kingscavil Cottages

The Kingscavil Cottages is a grouping of six residential buildings and a school building. It is located near the Scottish town of Linlithgow in West Lothian . In 1978 the complex was included in the Scottish Monuments List in the highest category A. R. H. J. Stewart of Champfleurie House had the building constructed in 1873, possibly based on a design by Campbell Walker . The Parish Linlithgow Education Authorities ran the school; the residential building was rented for an annual fee of £ 4. School operations have meanwhile been stopped. At the beginning of the 1990s, the buildings were partially restored.

description

The one-storey buildings with a loft are isolated on a side street between Linlithgow and Bridgend . They are lined up in a closed construction, with two gable cottages framing the two central, eaves cottages on the outside. The masonry consists of rubble from the cream-colored sandstone , with strips of ashlar running through it, which also surrounds the building openings. The windows are designed with fluted bezels and window mullions and arranged as twin or triple windows. Decorative wrought iron hinges were used on the wooden entrance doors. Obliquely above the eaves doors come gable dormers from the covered up with gray slate gable roofs out. On the south-facing rear, flatter extensions go off at right angles. The similarly designed school building is set back slightly and forms the western end. A modern, Harl- plastered wing with a flat roof connects to the rear .
