Bridgend ( Gaelic : Ceann na Drochaid ) is a village in the north of the Scottish Council Area West Lothian or in the traditional county of Linlithgowshire . It is located about four kilometers southeast of Linlithgow and six kilometers north of Livingston .

history

Tower House Ochiltree Castle was built southwest of Bridgend in the 16th or 17th centuries . To the north-west, the Champfleurie House was built in 1851 . R. H. J. Stewart of Champfleurie House had the Kingscavil Cottages , a residence and school building, built in 1873 .

The village developed with the establishment of the Champfleurie Oil Works by the Linlithgow Oil Company in the 1880s. After about 25 years, however, the company closed again and a few decades later the workers' apartments were largely demolished. In 1999 the Bridgend & District Golf Club opened on the premises.

In 1971 there were still 1,039 people living in Bridgend, while the 2011 census survey counted only 772 inhabitants.

traffic

Bridgend is only connected to the road network via secondary roads. Within a radius of five kilometers, however, the A89 ( Glasgow - Newbridge ), the A803 (Linlithgow - Champany ), the A899 ( Dechmont - Broxburn ) and the A904 ( Falkirk - South Queensferry ) can be reached. The M8 runs a few kilometers south, the M9 two kilometers north. With the Edinburgh Airport is an international airport located about ten kilometers east.
