Dechmont ( Gaelic : Deagh Mhonadh ) is a village in the center of the Scottish Council Area West Lothian or in the traditional county of Linlithgowshire . It is located about two kilometers north of Livingston and six kilometers southeast of Linlithgow .
history
Bangour Village Hospital was established in 1906, directly northwest of Dechmont . The renowned architect Hippolyte Blanc provided the design . It is the first mental health facility in Scotland to be designed as a village-like facility. In both world wars it also served as a military hospital. In 2004 the facility was finally closed. A year later parts of the film The Jacket were shot there.
While 534 people lived in Dechmont in 1961, the 2011 census survey counted 706 inhabitants.
traffic
The A899 (Dechmont - Broxburn ) is the main road in the village. In the south, the A89 ( Glasgow - Newbridge ) touches a trunk road. The M8 runs a few hundred meters south. With the Edinburgh Airport is an international airport located about ten kilometers east.
