description

The Kingsknowes Hotel is located near the left bank of the Tweed in the southeast of Galashiels. The site overlooks the former mill buildings to the northeast and the Abbotsford estate to the south. The A6091 crosses the Tweed directly to the northeast. The building, designed in the Scottish Baronial style , also has neo-Gothic elements as well as details of French Renaissance architecture . The masonry of the asymmetrically constructed hotel consists of red sandstone . The concluding hip roofs are covered with slate. The winter garden, which is adjacent to the south-west of the hotel, is to be emphasized, to which the monument protection explicitly extends. This has an octagonal floor plan and is connected to the main building via a corridor. The structure, made of small, convex glass elements, closes with a curved hood with a round lantern on top .
