Kinzang Dorji

Lyonpo Kinzang Dorji (* 1951 ) was Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bhutan from August 3, 2007 to April 9, 2008 and thus de facto Prime Minister of Bhutan. He took over from Lyonpo Khandu Wangchuk and formed a transitional government. Seven members of the ten-member Council of Ministers resigned. The Kinzang Dorji government prepared for the first parliamentary elections in the Kingdom of Bhutan in 2008 as part of a democratization process.

Kinzang Dorji was Prime Minister of his country from August 14, 2002 to August 30, 2003. From 1997 to 1998 Kinzang Dorji was a member of the National Assembly of Bhutan, from 1998 to 2003 Minister of Agriculture and 2003 Minister of Construction and Settlement.

In addition to his political commitment is Kinzang Dorji President of the Bhutan-Switzerland Society (BSS), the sister organization of the Swiss Society Bhutan - Switzerland (SSB). In 2018 he became Switzerland's first honorary consul in Bhutan, which until then had been served diplomatically from India.

In the Bhutanese state language Dzongkha , the title Lyonpo means "Minister". In 1998 the executive power of the king was transferred to the Council of Ministers lhengye shungtsog . Until April 2008, one of the members of the Council of Ministers took over the position of head of government on a rotation for one year.
