Kiosk (کیوسک) is an Iranian blues rock band. The musicians have lived in the USA since 2006 . Kiosk plays a mix of blues, modern rock music and traditional Iranian music. The lyrics come from the pen of the singer Arash Sobhani, deal with everyday life in Iran and are partially socially critical.

history

Kiosk was founded in Tehran in the 1990s . The band name refers to the makeshift music studios in private homes in Iran, where underground bands recorded their music and called the kiosk . The first line-up consisted of singer Arash Sobhani, guitarists Anoush Khazeni and Babak Khiavchi, bassist Ali Kamali, keyboardist Ardalan Payvar, drummer Shahrouz Molaei and background singer Mardjan K. The band spent the first few years underground, the musicians migrated to Part from Iran. Therefore the recordings for the debut album "Adam-e Ma'mooli" were long and difficult. It was recorded in home studios in various locations in and outside of Iran. and finally released in late 2005 by the Canadian independent label Bamahang Productions . The album was the first official release by an Iranian rock band outside of Iran.

The musicians emigrated to the USA in 2006 and released their second album "Eshgh-e Sor'at" in 2007. The direction of the music video for the theme song was directed by Ahmad Kiarostami, son of the Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami . Both the debut and the second album were among the best-selling albums in the online market, the music video had over 250,000 hits on YouTube . Singer Arash Sobhani took part in a panel discussion hosted by Brandeis University and Harvard University in 2007 , during which the band gave their first concert on the east coast of the United States . The World Academy of Arts, Literature, and Media recognized the band as the best blues band in 2008. A recording of a gig at Yoshi's Jazz Club in San Francisco in July 2010 was released in October 2010 as a live album Triple Distilled: Live at Yoshi’s . In autumn 2011 the fourth studio album Natijeh-e Mozakerat (Outcome of Negotiations) was released and on February 1, 2013 the fifth album Tashkilate Movazi (Parallel Establishments) was released .
