Kipyegon Bett (born February 1, 1998 ) is a Kenyan athlete who specializes in the 800-meter run .
Athletic career
Kipyegon Bett gained his first international experience at the African Youth Championships in Mauritius , where he won the gold medal in 1: 51.67 minutes. At the youth world championships in Cali , Colombia , he won the silver medal over 800 meters in 1: 47.14 minutes. He also won the silver medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Apia in 1: 46.15 min. A year later he became world champion at the U20 World Championships in Bydgoszcz in a time of 1: 44.95 min.
In 2017 he took second place with the Kenyan 4 x 800 meter relay at the World Relays in the Bahamas . During the outdoor season he qualified to participate in the World Championships in London . There, on August 8, 2017, Bett secured the bronze medal in 1: 45.21 minutes in the final .
doping
In 2018, Bett tested positive for Epo . He also missed a doping control and was therefore temporarily banned. In November, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) of the World Athletics Federation (IAAF) assessed a four-year doping ban from August 15, 2018 to August 14, 2022. Its results were retroactively canceled from February 24, 2018, including all starts at the Diamond League meetings .
