Kiran is a gender-neutral given name , which also occurs as a family name .

origin

The first name Kiran (Hindi: किरण [ kiˈraːn ] "(sun) ray") comes from Hindi and has its roots in Sanskrit . Other forms are also kirandeep, kira and kiri.

In contrast to the previous rule for German first names , according to which the gender of a person should be derived from their first name, the Federal Constitutional Court decided on December 5, 2008 that the first name Kiran can be registered as the sole first name for both sexes.
