Kiran Nagarkar
Kiran Nagarkar ( Marathi : किरण नगरकर , Kiraṇ Nagarkar ; * 1942 in Bombay ; † September 5, 2019 ) was an Indian writer living in Mumbai (Bombay) who wrote in Marathi and English . He has published novels , plays, and screenplays .
Life
In addition to plays and screenplays, Nagarkar wrote four novels in particular, which earned him the reputation of an outstanding representative of contemporary Indian literature . Nagarkar studied at Ferguson College in Pune and then worked as a lecturer at various colleges, as a journalist, screenwriter and especially in the advertising industry.
He wrote his first novel Saat Sakkam Trechalis (1974; German seven times six is forty-three , 2007) in his native Marathi. The bitter and burlesque portrayal of the world of the young Bombayman Kushank, in its fragmented form and innovative language treatment, is considered a milestone in Marathi literature and was awarded the Hari Narayan Apte Award in 1975 for the best debut novel.
Nagarkar wrote his second novel Ravan and Eddie (1994; Eng. Ravan & Eddie , 2004) in English and was therefore often attacked. The childhood story of two boys from a Hindu and a Christian family who are neighbors and yet live in completely different worlds has been criticized as both anti-Hindu and anti-Christian.
For his novel Cuckold (1997 German Krishna's shadow , 2002) Kiran Nagarkar received the highest recognition of the Indian literary academy , the Sahitya Akademi Award, in 2000 .
In his novel God's Little Soldier (2006; Eng. God's Little Warrior , 2006) he deals with extremism and fundamentalism.
From April 2008 Kiran Nagarkar was a guest of the DAAD's Berlin artist program for one year .
From November 24th to 30th, 2008, together with the German writer Christoph Peters , he took over the 22nd Tuebingen poetics lectureship at the Eberhard Karls University of Tuebingen .
From June to November 2011 he stayed at the Literaturhaus and the PWG Foundation in Zurich.
