Limlingerode Church
The church in Limlingerode is a Protestant church not far from Nordhausen in the Nordhausen district in Thuringia .
History and architecture
Today's church building is a simple baroque hall building built on a hillside with a polygonal end. It was built in 1652 after the previous building had become too small. The central part of the nave is adorned with a barrel vault . The roof turret measures 7.50 meters above the ridge and thus shapes the townscape. The pulpit altar was built in the second half of the 17th century. The theme of the altar painting is the Last Supper. A baroque baptismal angel from the mid-18th century hovers in the nave .
Free-standing bell chair
The ringing includes three free-swinging bells - they hang northwest of the church in a freestanding, oak-made half-timbered bell cage , which was built in 1835 in the former old cemetery on a rubble foundation.
Remarkable
The church is the baptistery of Sarah Kirsch , the poet was born in 1935 in the neighboring rectory. Pastor Paul Bernstein baptized his granddaughter Ingrid Hella Irmelinde Bernstein on May 19, 1935 - who became a highly valued poet as Sarah Kirsch. The parsonage next to it is the house where the poet was born - it has since been redesigned to become the Sarah Kirsch poet .
