The church in Limlingerode

Limlingerode is a place on the southern edge of the Harz in northern Thuringia . It belongs to the municipality of Hohenstein in the western part of the Nordhausen district .

location

Limlingerode is located in the northwest of the Nordhausen district in the border area to the Thuringian district of Eichsfeld in the west and the Lower Saxony district of Göttingen in the north. The district is located in the arable hill country of the northern Thuringian hill country at the transition to the wooded Silkeroder hill country (up to approx. 320 m). The Sete , a tributary of the Helmets, flows through the village .

history

The village was first mentioned in 1233 as Lummolingerode . It is said to have existed as a harvesting site as early as the 9th century . It then developed as a street village with four-sided courtyards . The church tower from 1824 was destroyed by American artillery in April 1945. At the time of the GDR, Limlingerode was in the five-kilometer exclusion zone of the inner-German border . On October 18, 1996, Limlingerode became a district of the Hohenstein community through the dissolution of the Grenzland administrative community, and in the same year it became the “ most beautiful village ” of the Nordhausen district. The half-timbered houses were renovated, among other things, through subsidies.
