history

The name Trebra is probably of Old High German origin. The place was first mentioned on August 22, 1291. The church was built around 1700. The volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1873, the men's choir in 1876.

Trebra was occupied by US troops on April 10, 1945 . The previous artillery fire set 32 buildings in the village on fire. An incipient fighter-bomber attack was averted by the farmer Riedel by showing a white sheet. Before that, a group of Wehrmacht horses and carts had been shot down on the road between Trebra and Epschenrode.

At the beginning of July 1945 it was occupied by the Red Army and thus incorporated into the Soviet occupation zone . In the 1950s, the forced collectivization of agriculture was carried out.

The once independent municipality of Trebra belonged to the Grenzland administrative community from 1991 to 1996 . With the dissolution of this on October 17, 1996, the member communities were merged to form the community of Hohenstein.

The place now has 365 inhabitants.
