Marihn Church
The Marihn Church is a listed church building in Marihn , a district of the city of Penzlin in the Mecklenburg Lake District ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ).
History and architecture
The previous building from 1304 was destroyed in a village fire in 1725.
The half-timbered church with a small wooden tower, built from 1725 to 1728, was named as dilapidated as early as 1773.
After the dilapidated previous church had been demolished, construction of the current neo-Romanesque building began in 1904. The architect was Paul Schondorf . The church was built in brick , and portal extensions were added on the west and south sides . The building was badly damaged in World War II and later renovated. The walls are divided by narrow arched windows with brick surrounds. The eaves area is decorated all around by a plaster panel. The side extension is also structured by round-arched plaster panels. The slightly drawn-in choir is just closing. The tower gable is an annexe with a round-arched entrance portal in a multi-stepped jambs vorgebaut.
Roof turret
The western ridge is crowned with a slim roof turret, it was badly damaged by a lightning strike in 1996, the reconstruction work lasted until 1997. The square tower top was made of wood and is divided by double sound openings. They are similar in style to the windows in the nave . The pointed helmet is four-sided.

A memorial plaque with an inscription is attached to the church: Built in 1904 - 1905 by the high patron Sr. Royal Highness the Grand Duke Friedrich Franz IV von Meckl. Schwerin and by the current owner of Marin Carl von Rocheid. Inaugurated on August 27, 1905 in the presence of the patron saint and the entire community of Marin
Furnishing
- The majority of the furnishings come from the time the church was built; the two historical paintings with the crucifixion of Christ and the Last Supper only came to the church in recent years as permanent loans and are not part of the original furnishings.
- The bell in the roof turret was probably cast from Waren by Carl Illies around 1861.
