Paul Schondorf

Paul Schondorf (born November 1, 1873 in Güstrow , † 1949 on Lake Constance ) was a German architect and Mecklenburg construction officer .

As the son of the composer and Grand Ducal Music Director John Schondorf born in Güstrow and raised studied Paul Schondorf at the Technical University of Munich and the Technical University of Braunschweig architecture . In Braunschweig he joined the Corps Rhenania , where he was reciprocated in the summer semester of 1895 .

After the first state examination , he completed the preparatory service at the building authorities in Lübeck and Schwerin and in 1902, after passing the second state examination in the state building district of Güstrow, he joined the Mecklenburg state service as a government master builder ( assessor ) . In 1903 he was promoted to head of the Dargun building district and in 1911 to land master builder and building director in the Rostock state building district .

In June 1912 he was appointed head of the building construction department in the Mecklenburg-Strelitz State Ministry and was later appointed by the Grand Duke to a ministerial councilor and structural member of the Grand Ducal Ministry in Neustrelitz. In 1934 he retired and moved to Lake Constance, where he lived until his death in 1949.

Since joining the Mecklenburg-Strelitz State Ministry, he has been striving to improve the state's structural engineering, in particular schools, domains and workers' housing.

One of his architectural masterpieces was the New Carolinum , which was built from 1923 to 1925 according to his plans . When it was inaugurated by the Prussian minister of education, Carl Heinrich Becker, it was considered the most modern school building in Mecklenburg.

Since 1908 Paul Schondorf was a member of the Association for Mecklenburg History and Archeology.

  • In honor of Paul Schondorf, the city of Neustrelitz erected a stele directly in front of the Carolinum grammar school on September 3, 2007.
