Rothenschirmbach Church
The St. Pankratius Church in Rothenschirmbach is a Protestant church near Eisleben in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt .
history
Little is known about the old church, probably founded in the 10th century and consecrated to St. Pancratius . Structurally it was maintained by the parish and subsidies from the Sittichenbach office . Their structural condition was inadequate around 1890, and the space in the church was apparently no longer sufficient for the community. So the parish decided to build a new building in the same place.
The previous church building was demolished in March and April 1893, the foundation stone for the new building was laid on May 4, 1893, the shell was completed in early September and the church was consecrated on December 14, 1893.
The preparations and the construction work were largely directed by the pastor and later well-known missiologist Gustav Warneck . The new, concise and widely visible church building was created from the typical red sandstone of the Hornburg saddle , from a quarry in the immediate vicinity of Rothenschirmbach.
Autobahn Church
Since June 11, 2006, the Rothenschirmbach church has also served as a motorway church . It is the fourth motorway church in Saxony-Anhalt. It is located near the autobahn exit from the A 38 on the federal highway 180 in the direction of Lutherstadt Eisleben (exit 19) around 800 meters in a north-easterly direction.
