Saatlen Church (Zurich-Schwamendingen)
The church Saatlen is a Reformed church in the city Zurich . It is located at Saatlenstrasse 240 in the Schwamendingen district .
history
Because the Schwamendingen district grew rapidly after the Second World War , the Reformed parish of Schwamendingen built the historic St. Niklaus Church at Schwamendingerplatz in 1955, the Stefanskirche Hirzenbach and in 1964 the Saatlen church. A public competition took place as early as 1956, from which the project by Claude Paillard , who had also built the St. Gallen Theater and the expansion of the Zurich Opera House , emerged as the winner. In the years 1962–1964 the church was built as an expressive , cubic concrete structure. In 1965 the church received the City of Zurich Award for Good Buildings .
Building description
On Saatlenstrasse, not far from the busy Wallisellenstrasse , the Saatlen church rises on an almost square building site. Because the area is rather narrow, the church center rises on two floors, with the actual church on the upper floor. The structure is complex and has an expressive effect due to the staggering of the flat roofs and the church tower . Around a forecourt, the components are laid out like a wreath, whereby the church space stands out from the other structures as a pure cube. The church tower dominates the ensemble.
organ
The organ of the Saatlen church was built in 1965 by Metzler Orgelbau . It is a mechanical organ with 25 registers .
