Building history

inside view

The first written mention of the old parish church comes from an episcopal property register from the 1290s. Due to the structural features, a building from the 1st millennium cannot be ruled out. In 1351 the church was rededicated.

The tower on the south corner was built towards the end of the 14th century. The tower was originally 5.5 meters lower; the bell storey and the tent roof date from the middle of the 15th century. On the front of the tower there are sparse remains of an image of St. Christopher, on the south wall of the tower there are still some remains of color from stars.

To the east of the tower on the ship's wall are the remains of the foundations of a small building, perhaps an ossuary. The barely existing surrounding wall and the entrance gate date from the 17th century.

Interior

The frescoes inside were discovered in 1933 and uncovered in 1937 during a restoration. They show representations of two artists from different times.

The paintings in the style of the Rhäzünser master date from around 1500. On the south wall they show the birth of Christ and the Annunciation to the shepherds, on the north wall the entry of Christ into Jerusalem, Gethsemane and the capture.

The pictures in the apse from the second half of the 15th century in the style of the Seregno show a row of apostles, beginning on the left with Matthias and ending with Peter. Three female saints are depicted above the south side altar and male saints on the south wall. The large picture to the right of the window shows Damian with a pillbox and a medical instrument.
