Nuri Sojliu

Nuri Sojliu (* 1870 or 1872 in Struga ; † 1940 or 1947 there ) was an Albanian politician and co-signer of Albania's declaration of independence in Vlora on November 28, 1912.

Soliju was born in Struga, where he also attended school. He graduated from middle school in Istanbul . Together with his brother Ibrahim Temo , he campaigned for the concerns of the Albanians. The two associated with many formative figures of the Albanian Rilindja .

Back in Struga he married Fatime Hysen Nasuf. The two had ten children. Sojliu worked as a civil servant in the Ottoman administration . In addition, he campaigned for the education of Albanian youth. Local children were taught Albanian at his home in Struga , which is why he, his father and a brother were also imprisoned.

Together with two other men from the Ohrid region , he traveled to Vlora in November 1912 as a representative of the region. After Ohrid became part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia , Sojliu documented the crimes against the Albanians in letters to Ibrahim Temo, who lived in Romania .

In the 1920s he contacted the government of Fan S. Noli . When the west of Macedonia was occupied by the Italians and connected with Albania during World War II, several representatives of the Sojliu family were active in the administration of the fascists.
