Evangelical Church Sachsenbrunn

The listed Evangelical Lutheran Church Sachsenbrunn is located in the Sachsenbrunn district of the city of Eisfeld in the Hildburghausen district in Thuringia .

In 1490 a pilgrimage chapel was built, of which the cross vault in the choir and the keystone as well as the triumphal arch and the arched window in the north wall of the nave are still preserved.

In 1531 the present shape was restored by an extension. In 1610 the 31 m high tower was built, in which four cast iron bells hang.

The interior has been painted in peasant baroque style . The pulpit is decorated with the evangelists . The galleries show scenes from the Old and New Testament . Other biblical scenes decorate the room.

A carved crucifixion group above the triumphal arch is attributed to the workshop of Tilman Riemenschneider .

The present organ from 1867/68, a work of the organ builder Ludwig Glaser from Saalfeld, had to be rebuilt by the organ builder Holland in 1870 . In 2006/07 it was restored by Hey Orgelbau . Earlier organs came from, among others, Christoph Crapp and Johann Christian Dotzauer .
