Norra Fågelås Church

The church of Norra Fågelås is located in the Swedish municipality of Hjo about six kilometers south of the town of Hjo on the west bank of Lake Vättersee .

Building history

The church was first mentioned in 1225 and is one of the oldest in the region. Towards the end of the Middle Ages , the church was rebuilt in the Gothic style. Another renovation was carried out around 1650, with the addition of today's wooden cross vault , the armory and a grave choir with frescoes . Another burial choir on the opposite side was added in the 18th century. The original church tower was probably rebuilt in the 1760s.

Interior

The pulpit and baptismal font also date from the middle of the 17th century, the organ front is dated to 1775. The church walls are covered with a variety of funerary inscriptions, coats of arms and memorial plaques mainly for people who lived in the community in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Bells

Of the three bells, the smallest is also the oldest, it probably dates from the late 14th century.
