Vittskövle Church

The Church of Vittskövle ( Swedish Vittskövle kyrka ) is a church in the Swedish municipality of Kristianstad in Vittskövle , which is located in the province of Skåne län or the historic province of Skåne . In the ecclesiastical organization of Sweden, the church is subordinate to the Vittskövle församling ( parish Vittskövle) and Lunds stift ( diocese of Lund ).

The church was built in the 12th or 13th century. In the 15th century a northern chapel was added, dedicated to St. Anne . The vaults were erected in the 15th century with wall paintings from the 1480s depicting stories of Genesis . These were later painted over, but restored in the 20th century.

In the chancel , the legend of the Holy was Nicholas of Myra painted. In the chapel you can find the symbols of the evangelists and the four holy medieval women: Saints Barbara , Ursula , Gertrud and Kathrin .

The tower was built in the 16th century, the baptismal font dates from the Middle Ages.
