The church ruin Rafingsberg and former pilgrimage church Maria Rafingsberg is located in Rafingsberg in the market town of Windigsteig in the district of Waidhofen an der Thaya in Lower Austria . The ruin is a listed building .

history

A new building of a Marienkapelle was mentioned in documents in 1455. There was an upswing as a place of pilgrimage. After construction work, the church was consecrated in 1490. The church became part of the Zwettl monastery as a branch church of Our Lady. In 1658/1663 the nave was rebuilt and the church was re-consecrated in 1670. In 1708 there was a ring wall around the church and stood at the end of a pilgrimage route from Waidhofen an der Thaya. In 1786 the facility was removed and destroyed and in part - like the image of grace - transferred to the Windigsteig parish church . In 1792 it was profaned and demolition began.

architecture

A Gothic choir ruin has been preserved. The remaining walls are built with small houses.
