Kirkland's was founded in 1966 by Carl Kirkland and Robert Kirkland in Jackson, Tennessee . At the time, they mainly sold home accessories and gifts.

In September 2018, Kirkland's announced that it would appoint Steve Woodward as its new CEO, replacing Mike Cairnes.

Today the company operates across much of the United States, with 2018 sales of $ 647 million .

On July 11, 2002, Kirkland's Inc. (NYSE: "KIRK") went public on the New York Stock Exchange . The starting price was $ 15 per share. Today the stock is at a low of $ 1.39.
