Cherry Michel (regional and Kirschenplotzer , Palatine: Kärscheblotzer , Körschmichl , Kerschemischel , cherry Jockel , cherry pan , Kirschenmännla , Chirsichlotz called) is a traditional dessert of German cuisine and especially in the Palatinate , Baden-Württemberg , southern Bavaria , southern Hesse and Franconia served.

Cherry michel essentially consists of stale rolls or bread, which are processed into a dough mixture together with butter , milk , egg and sugar . The dough is folded under the sweet or sour cherries and baked in the oven as a casserole . Vanilla , cinnamon , almonds and cloves can be used for seasoning. The dessert is served warm and is traditionally eaten as a main course in many families after a soup.

In combination with white bread, it creates a light casserole that can be served well in summer temperatures. The recipes vary from region to region.

A similar southern German specialty, but with apples, is the pyre or oven hatch . Poor knights are also made from stale bread, but without cherries.
