Kirsty Blackman (birth name: Kirsty West ; * 1986 ) is a British politician from the Scottish National Party (SNP) who has been a member of the House of Commons for the constituency of Aberdeen North since the general election on May 7, 2015 .

Life

Kirsty Blackman began their political commitment to the Scottish National Party (SNP) in local politics when she first time in 2007 in the constituency Hilton, stick Thill and Woodside as a member of the city council of Aberdeen (Aberdeen City Council) has been selected. In the following years she acted as spokeswoman in the committee of the city council for education and as chairwoman of the license committee. After she was re-elected as a member of the city council in 2012, she took over the function of chairwoman of the SNP parliamentary group . In her local political work, she campaigned in particular for the expansion of daycare places.

In the general election on May 7, 2015, Kirsty Blackman was elected a member of the House of Commons for the SNP in the Aberdeen North constituency. It was able to achieve 24,793 votes (56.4 percent) and improve the SNP's result in this constituency by 34.2 percentage points. She clearly prevailed against her challenger from the Labor Party , the previous member of the Scottish Parliament Richard Baker , who received 11,397 votes (25.9 percent) and thus 18.5 percentage points over the previous Labor MP of this constituency, Frank Doran , who had refused to run again. In the 2017 general election , Blackman defended her mandate despite losing votes.

Kirsty Blackman is married to Luke Blackman and has two children.
