Richard Baker

Richard Baker (born May 29, 1974 in Edinburgh ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Labor Party .

Life

Baker was born the son of an Episcopal vicar and an English teacher. He is the godchild of the Archbishop of the Diocese of Aberdeen and Orkney . Baker attended Cowdenbeath Primary School in Cowdenbeath , St Bee's School in Cumbria and then studied English literature at Aberdeen University . Between 1998 and 2000, Baker was elected President of the National Union of Students Scotland . He is a member of the Amicus union . Baker is married to his party colleague Claire Baker . They have a daughter together.

Scottish Parliament

In the Scottish general election in 2003 , Baker ran in the constituency of Aberdeen South . He received the second highest number of votes behind the Liberal Democrat Nicol Stephen and thus missed the direct mandate. However, since Baker was set on the second rank of the regional electoral list of the Labor Party for the electoral region North East Scotland , he received one of the seven list mandates of the electoral region and moved into the Scottish Parliament as a result of the election result . He defended his mandate in the following parliamentary elections in 2007 and 2011 .
