Kiruba

Kiruba was an Ecuadorian pop band . It bears the name of a legendary Shuar chief from the 16th century.

Band history

Kiruba was created from October 2002 to February 2003 from the Ecuadorian version of the Popstars singing competition , broadcast by Teleamazonas TeVe . The band consisted of five singers. Their cast was first announced on February 24, 2003.

Their first album Kiruba , produced by Eduardo de Narváez, was sold more than 20,000 times within three weeks and achieved double platinum status. After only one day there was gold for 5,000 albums sold, and after two days platinum for 10,000 albums.

A concert tour across Ecuador led in 2003 over 16 stations, from Quito on April 25th to Ibarra on July 19th. 15,000 paying listeners saw Kiruba on April 30th in Cuenca , 9,000 paying listeners gathered in Guayaquil on May 9th .

The dissolution of Kiruba was at the latest in autumn 2006, when Gabriela Villalba and Mariela Nazareno joined other bands.

Gabriela Villalba played the role of Catalina Andrade in 2004 in the Colombian TV series Al ritmo de tu corazón . Since the beginning of October 2006 she has been a member of the Chilean pop-rock band Kudai .

Mariela Nazareno has been the lead singer of the Ecuadorian band Tinticos since 2006 .
