Emblems of the Kisfaludy Society (1881)

The Kisfaludy Society was a Hungarian cultural association founded in 1837 in memory of the brothers Károly Kisfaludy and Sándor Kisfaludy . The 5000 guilders surplus from a collection to commemorate the deceased in Balatonfüred was used to advertise prizes for aesthetic treatises and literary works, and soon the sum increased significantly through voluntary donations and the proceeds from the works of Kisfaludy .

The Kisfaludy Society annually expanded the circle of its members, and its activity not only evoked many solid works through the annual prizes, but also exerted a significant influence through its yearbooks, its critical journal and the publication of older and more recent Hungarian masterpieces, etc. on the development of young Hungarian literature.

In addition, she provided solid translations of ancient and modern masterpieces, namely the dramatic poems by Shakespeare , Molière and others, Don Quixote from Cervantes , and published collections of Hungarian and, in translation, Slovak and Ruthenian folk songs.

Its founding members included József Bajza , Gregor Czuczor , Miklós Jósika , Pál Kovács, Ferenc Kölcsey , György Zádor , Ferenc Toldy and Mihály Vörösmarty .

The company was dissolved in 1952.
