Ferenc Kölcsey

Ferenc Kölcsey (born August 8, 1790 in Sződemeter , † August 24, 1838 in Szatmárcseke ) was a Hungarian writer.

Ferenc Kölcsey wrote poetry and essays influenced by the Enlightenment and Romanticism . He was a founding member of the Kisfaludy Society . He wrote the text of the Hungarian national anthem as a poem with the subtitle A magyar nép zivataros századaiból “From the stormy centuries of the Hungarian people”. From 1812 to 1815 he lived in a thatched classicist mansion in Álmosd . Today there is a Ferenc Kölcsey Museum.

From 1832 to 1834 Kölcsey was a member of the state parliament . His classical tomb is in the reformed cemetery of Szatmárcseke, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county .
