Sven Gerike (born January 5, 1977 in Berlin ) is an ice hockey coach and former German ice hockey player.
Career
At the U18 European Championship in Berlin in 1995, Gerike played for Germany. In 5 games, with 2 goals and 2 assist, he had his share in the greatest success of a German junior national team. She won the silver medal.
Gerike's career in professional ice hockey began in 1995 with the Eisbären Berlin in the German Ice Hockey League . In the capital he had also gone through the offspring and so came to his first assignments during the 1995/96 season . The learned center only got three scorer points in 27 games and therefore moved one league lower to the EC in Hanover . There he achieved the breakthrough with 25 points in 40 missions. In the following years his career was marked by many changes, whereby these were not due to poor performance, but primarily due to a lack of funds in the clubs.
In 1997 Gerike played at the Junior A World Championship for Germany, but was no longer considered for the national team in the following years.
The jump back to the top German league was denied him. With the Eisbären Regensburg and later with EV Regensburg , where he was active from 2003, Gerike found his new sporting and private home. In 2005 he received the award as the best defensive striker in the 2nd Bundesliga from the specialist magazine Eishockey News .
After the bankruptcy of EVR Eisbären Betriebs GmbH, he played a key role in the rebuilding of ice hockey in Regensburg. So he acted there as a junior coach for the school team, player and sports director. Between 2008 and 2011 he also worked as a player-coach for the first team. Under his leadership, the senior citizens of EV Regensburg rose from the 5th division to the 4th and directly in the following year to the 3rd division (Oberliga). In addition, as the responsible junior coach, he played a major role in the rise of Regensburg junior ice hockey in the highest leagues and two German championships in the EVR junior team.
On August 12, 2010 Gerike announced his career as an ice hockey player. On November 18 of the same year, however, he returned as a player at EV Regensburg because the team did not show the sporting performance desired by the club. After the 2011/12 season, Gerike was dismissed due to irreconcilable differences.
From 2012 he was employed by EC Red Bull Salzburg as a junior coach and scout. In his first year he won the Austrian championship with the U15 team. Until 2014 he was head coach of the U16s at EC Red Bull Salzburg. Since August 2015 he has been the head coach of the Icefighters Leipzig .
