Kitty Green (born 1984 in Melbourne ) is an Australian film director , writer and producer . Green studied film and television at the Victorian College of the Arts . Her graduation film Spilt was shown internationally.

Professional activity

Greens debut film The Ukraine is not a brothel ( The Ukraine Is Not A Brothel ) was in 2013 on the International Film Festival of Venice presented. The documentary tells the story of Femen , the Ukrainian feminist movement. To this end, she had accompanied several women in the movement and their actions for years, and some of the activists were present at the film screening in Venice. The film reveals that Viktor Svyatsky co-founded the group, planned the actions and made the fellow women emotionally dependent. For Ukraine is not a brothel , she won the 2014 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts award for best documentary.

Green's short film The Face of Ukraine: Casting Oksana Baiul about a casting of six girls who are applying for the role of the Ukrainian figure skater Oksana Bajul was shown in the Generation section of the 2015 Berlinale . In 2017 Casting JonBenet ran at the Berlinale in the Panorama , Documents section. The film deals with the murder of six-year-old beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey . Netflix has secured the film distribution rights. In 2020 her debut feature film The Assistant will be shown at the Berlinale in the Panorama section. The film shows a day in the life of Jane, an assistant to a powerful film producer. Green wrote the script himself.
