The Kjalhraun is a shield volcano and lava field in the south of Iceland .
Surname
The name Kjalhraun means "keel-shaped lava field ". In fact, it is a shield volcano that has produced 10–12 km³ of lavas.
location
The Kjalhraun is located a few kilometers south of Hveravellir . The old Kjalvegur overland piste leads over it, and part of the new Kjölur piste also touches the lava field or the foot of the shield volcano.

The main crater measures 900 m in diameter. The volcano and lava field were formed around 8000 years ago and are part of the Hveravellir volcanic system , the northern Langjökull volcanic system.
