Klaas Gubbels (born January 19, 1934 in Rotterdam ) is a Dutch painter , photographer and sculptor . He is known for his still lifes with tables, chairs and coffee pots.

Life

Gubbels took a course in advertising painting at the Technical School in Rotterdam from 1949 to 1951 and an evening course at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten from 1951 to 1952 . In 1952 he moved to Arnhem with his mother , where he attended the ArtEZ Academy for Fine Arts in Arnhem and evening courses in sculpture until 1958. In 1954 he was assistant to Louis van Roode and Wally Elenbaas (1912-2008), with whom he made the mosaic walls in the Huis der Provincie in Arnhem. In the years 1959-1960 he was assistant to Marius van Beek and Dick Grossman. In the 1970s, Klaas Gubbels was a member of the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, along with other painters and graphic artists such as Hannes Postma and the sculptor Kees French. In 1963 he became a member of the Gemeenschap Beeldende Kunstenaars and taught at the Willem de Kooning Academy for several years . In 2005 he made an abstract glass sculpture with the help of glass blowers in Adriano Berengo's Berengo Studio on the island of Murano near Venice . His work, which includes both large murals and small prints, often features a teapot that is usually on a table.
