Klara Fricke intended to become more involved in caring for the poor and orphans. She therefore took a nursing course at the General German Women's Association (ADF), in whose work she soon took an active part. In addition to managing a girls' day care center in St. Pauli , Fricke was one of the founders of the Association for Orphan Care, Poor Care and Guardianship in 1912. In 1915 she took over the chairmanship of the association and from 1916 to 1934 also the chairmanship of the Hamburg local branch of the ADF, which had previously been headed by Helene Bonfort .

From 1919 Fricke was the first woman to be a member of the guardianship authority and was elected to the youth authority. In 1924 she took over the chairmanship of the committee for the promotion of youth welfare. During the time of National Socialism , Klara Fricke did not do voluntary work in social work, but was committed to building up the women's movement immediately after the end of World War II . In 1946 she was one of the founders of the Hamburger Frauenring eV

Klara Fricke died childless on October 16, 1951 in her hometown.

Honors

The Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg honored Klara Fricke in 1928 with the "Plaque for faithful work in the service of the people" for her voluntary social commitment. Today a memorial stone as part of a spiral of memories in the garden of the women of the Ohlsdorf cemetery commemorates Klara Fricke as well as Gertrud Lockmann and Emma Ender .
