Class association

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A class association - also called class for short - creates and maintains the definition of a boat class in sailing under the umbrella of the International Sailing Federation ISAF. It is usually organized as a registered association . In the class association mainly active regatta sailors of a boat class as well as those interested in it are involved.

Small classes that are only of national importance and have few members are mostly only members of the national sailing associations.

tasks

  • The main task of the class is the creation and maintenance of regulations and building regulations (also called class regulations ) for boats and competitions in the respective class.
  • The class association informs and advertises at trade fairs such as the Interboot in Friedrichshafen , the Hanseboot in Hamburg or the Boot in Düsseldorf and public events (including the Kieler Woche )
  • Together with the local race committee, the supervision of the building regulations and the regulations for races / regattas (similar to the FIA in Formula 1)
  • the organization of class-specific regatta events such as competitions or championships
  • the creation of a so-called regatta calendar in which the events of the corresponding boat class are listed
  • keeping an official ranking list

In addition to "very large" associations such. B. those of the Olympic boat classes, there are also "very small" with relatively few members who are only represented nationally or sometimes only regionally.

The German Sailing Association keeps a list of German class associations. There are also class associations that are not included in this list because they are only extraordinary members of the DSV, e.g. B. the boat class Aquila .
