Clinical-scientific contribution

Zastrow dealt early with infections in hospitals. Already in 1989/94 he determined 40,000 deaths and 1 million infections in German clinics. The proportion of nosocomial infections in deaths in hospitals was 12.1%. The infection numbers determined at that time are constant to this day. Zastrow was already calling for the establishment of a nationwide hygiene regulation . This was introduced on his sustainable initiative in 2011 with the law amending the Infection Protection Act and other laws . For this purpose, in cooperation with Klaus-Dieter Zastrow, Jens Ackermann and Martin Lindner , both members of the Bundestag of the FDP , § 23 "Nosocomial infections; resistances; legal ordinances by the states" was proposed as a new paragraph in the Infection Protection Act and on August 3, 2011 also by the Bundestag in Adopted as part of the aforementioned amendment to the law. With this paragraph, the legislator for the first time demands hygiene specialists for all German hospitals ( specialist in hygiene , hygiene specialist ).
