Klaus-Dietrich Fischer

Klaus-Dietrich Fischer (born June 23, 1948 in Meißen , Saxony ) is a German classical philologist , medical historian and lecturer at the Institute for the History, Theory and Ethics of Medicine at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz .

After studying classical philology and English in Munich, Berlin and Edinburgh, Fischer received his doctorate in Berlin in 1980 and worked from 1976 to 1987 as a research assistant at the Institute for the History of Medicine at the Free University of Berlin . The habilitation was completed in 1986. Since 1987 Fischer has been teaching at the Medical History Institute, which has been called the Institute for the History, Theory and Ethics of Medicine since 2004. Fischer held various visiting professorships and has been an expert on medical and veterinary texts at the Thesaurus Linguae Latinae since 1981 and a member of the research focus GDR 734 of the Center national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) since 1982 . In addition, Fischer organizes the Old Medicine working group in Mainz .

His main research interests are medicine in early medieval manuscripts (identification and indexing) and medical lexicography .
