Klaus Buchenau

Klaus Buchenau (* 1967 in Warleberg , Schleswig-Holstein ) is a German historian and university professor .

Life

From 1991 to 1997 he studied history and Slavic studies in Berlin , Moscow and Warsaw . From 1998 to 2001 he was a member of the graduate school “Comparison of society from a historical, sociological and ethnological perspective”, HU + FU Berlin. In 2002 he received a research grant from the Center for Comparative History of Europe, FU Berlin . In 2003 he was a research assistant at the Ecumenical Institute of the University of Münster . After receiving his doctorate in 2003 as Dr. phil. at the FU Berlin with Holm Sundhaussen he was a research assistant at the Eastern European Institute of the FU Berlin from 2004 to 2006. From 2006 to 2008 he was a research fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Russia. After completing his habilitation in 2010 for East and Southeast European History at the Free University of Berlin, he worked from 2009 to 2013 as a research assistant at the International Graduate School “Religious Cultures in Europe in the 19th and 20th Centuries”, LMU Munich . Since April 2013 he has been teaching as a professor for the history of Southeast and Eastern Europe at the University of Regensburg (substitute for Ulf Brunnbauer ).

Research and Teaching

His main research interests are the religious history of Southeast Europe, 19. – 21. Century, religious history of Czechoslovakia, anti-Westernism, fundamentalism in orthodox cultures of Southeast and Eastern Europe, history of Yugoslavia and its successor states, history of corruption in Southeast Europe, relations between Russia / Soviet Union and Southeast Europe. 19. – 20. Century, History of Russian Emigration and Southeast Europe in Global Comparison (especially with Latin America).
