Klaus Heinemann

Klaus Heinemann (born October 15, 1937 in Hamburg ) is a German sports sociologist and university professor .

Life

Heinemann studied industrial engineering in Karlsruhe and passed his exam in 1963. In 1965 he completed his doctoral thesis (subject: “External Effects of Production and Their Significance for Economic Policy”) and in 1969 his habilitation (subject: “Basics of a Sociology of Money”).

He held a professorship in Tübingen and Hanover, and in 1970 he took over a professorship for sociology at the University of Trier . During this time he mainly dealt with problems of unemployment (“Unemployed young people - individual coping with a social problem”, “Group work with unemployed young people”, “Unemployed women”). During this time he became interested in problems of sociology and the economy of sport. In 1981 Heinemann took up a professorship in sociology at the University of Hamburg , which he held until he retired in 2001. During his university career, Heinemann stayed as a visiting professor at universities in France , Italy , Spain , Uruguay and the United States . From 1979 to 1989 he was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Sports Association (DSB), he was a member of the DSB Board of Directors and Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federal Institute for Sports Science . Between 1981 and 1990 he worked as editor of the journal "International Review for the Sociology of Sport".

In 1980 the first edition of Heinemann's book “Introduction to the Sociology of Sports” came out, which later appeared in five further editions. Heinemann's research focus in sports sociology included the area of ​​sport and societies, which he dealt with in a book of the same name published in 2001. Furthermore, financial aspects of sports clubs, honorary and full-time employment, commercial sports providers such as fitness studios, the concept of "non-sporting sport", the technologicalization of sport, were the focus of his scientific work. Heinemann also dealt with the economics of sport and, beyond sport, with topics of economic and organizational sociology.
