Klaus Henle (born January 5, 1955 ) is a German ecologist and head of the Department of Nature Conservation Research at the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research - UFZ in Leipzig .

Life

Henle studied biology at the University of Stuttgart Hohenheim and did his doctorate at the Australian National University Canberra on the subject of Population ecology and life history of a lizard community in arid Australia . His habilitation at the University of Mainz was on the subject of the animal-ecological fundamentals of nature conservation research .

Research & Teaching

Henle heads the Department of Conservation Research at the UFZ. He and his staff work on topics such as the population biology of vertebrates . An important aspect of conservation biology and Henle's research interest is the fragmentation of habitats . He deals with groups of animals in herpetology. Methodically, he deals with scaling in biodiversity research and the question of how scientific knowledge can be translated into practice.

In the past he has worked on synecological relationships on the floodplain of the Elbe.

He oversees a number of projects in his department, including a. research projects are running for

  • Protection of biodiversity across administrative levels and spatial, temporal and ecological scales (Securing the Conservation of Biodiversity across Administrative Levels and spatial, temporal, and ecological scales)
  • a development plan for an integrated system for observing biodiversity in space and time (European Biodiversity Observation Network).
  • Risk assessment and assessment of chytridiomycosis for European amphibians (Risk Assessment of Chytridiomycosis to European amphibian biodiversity)

At the University of Leipzig he participates in a Bachelor elective module environmental and nature conservation for biologists and related disciplines.
