Klaus Heugel (born August 3, 1936 in Berlin ) is a German politician (SPD) . He was senior city director and candidate for mayor of Cologne .

biography

Klaus Heugel trained as after graduation Hauer underground. He later completed a degree in business administration with a subsequent doctorate . Initially, he worked as a management assistant at AEG . This was followed by a job at the Gutehoffnungshütte staff unit . Finally, he became the Asia Country Officer for the German Development Company .

Political activity

The SPD member Heugel became a personal assistant in the Federal Chancellery through Horst Ehmke during the term of office of Federal Chancellor Willy Brandt . During the term of office of Chancellor Helmut Schmidt , Klaus Heugel became head of the department for political analysis. Heugel then switched to local politics and became managing director of the SPD parliamentary group in the Cologne city council. From 1980 to 1998 Klaus Heugel was parliamentary group leader of the SPD in Cologne. In addition, he was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia from 1980 until his early resignation in 1998 . Together with Norbert Rüther , Klaus Heugel was considered one of the most influential SPD politicians in Cologne. This was followed by his work as city manager of Cologne from 1998 to 1999. 1999 was a candidate Heugel as full-time mayor of the SPD and had shortly before the election to resign when his autumn 1999 insider trading with shares became known. In connection with the Cologne garbage and donation scandal , he was sentenced on August 7, 2008 by the Cologne Regional Court for corruption to a prison term of one year and nine months on probation. The revision submitted by him was rejected as unfounded by resolution of July 8, 2009. The conviction thus became final.
