Klaus Hympendahl

Klaus Hympendahl (born July 27, 1939 in Hamburg ; † February 21, 2016 in Buenos Aires , Argentina ) was a German author, expedition leader and circumnavigator.

Life

Klaus Hympendahl came to sailing through his father. From 1986 to 1991 Hympendahl sailed around the world on the Passat route. He made a name for himself as an author of maritime books and articles. His second passion was dancing the tango , to which he, also as an author, lent his language.

The Lapita-Voyage 2008/09 was an expedition with two replica Polynesian catamarans on the traces of the migration path of the early Polynesian seafaring, which he organized together with James Wharram and Hanneke Boon . With this expedition from the Philippines to the Polynesian islands of Anuta and Tikopia, he proved that Polynesia could have been settled from Asia.
