Klaus Kastan (* 1952 in Holzminden ) is a German journalist and was editor-in-chief at Bayerischer Rundfunk until June 2018 . On July 1st, 2018 he founded the startup "unter3 - Medien und Kommunikation", an agency for media consulting.

Kastan grew up in Munich and studied social pedagogy in Bamberg and Munich . As a schoolboy and student, he wrote articles for the local editorial offices of newspapers such as the Süddeutsche Zeitung , the Münchner Merkurs , the Franconian Day and the Evangelical Sunday newspaper . He started working as a freelancer for Bayerischer Rundfunk in 1975, and from 1981 was permanently employed by Zündfunk , the BR youth radio. From 1989 to 1995, Kastan was a radio correspondent in the London studio, after which he took over the management of the audience forum and media criticism department. In 1995 Kastan developed the call-in program Tages talk , which he moderated himself until 2006. From 2006 to 2012 Kastan worked as a foreign correspondent for BR radio in Washington . In 2012 Kastan returned to the head office in Munich and from there headed the editorial department for studios abroad and Berlin until 2015. As program manager, Kastan reformed the radio wave Bayern 2 from 2003
onwards. Kastan moderates talk programs on ARD-alpha at irregular intervals . He is also involved in journalist training and worked as a lecturer at the German School of Journalism in Munich and the Academy of the Bavarian Press .

On February 5, 2015, the Broadcasting Council of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation appointed Klaus Kastan as head of the tri- media program area Sport and Leisure. This includes television, radio and digital offers. The sports and leisure program area in the BR comprises a good 90 permanent and freelance employees and is responsible for around 30,000 minutes of broadcasting per year on television alone. Together or alternately with the MDR, the program area is u. a. as the lead in the ARD responsible for the planning, coordination and reporting on the Olympic Winter Games.

Klaus Kastan is married to the journalist Petra Leimer-Kastan, who is the spokeswoman for Munich's Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter . They have two sons together.
