Klaus Korn (born May 12, 1942 ) was a football player in East Berlin . For 1. FC Union Berlin , he played in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of the GDR Football Association .

Athletic career

Korn began his career as a soccer player with the small Berlin company sports association (BSG) Einheit Weißensee . As a junior he played for the army sports club Vorwärts Berlin and moved to BSG Motor Weißensee at the age of 18 in 1960 . There he played until 1964 in the fourth class, from 1963 third class Berlin district league .

At the beginning of the 1964/65 season, Korn joined the TSC Berlin , which was playing in the second-rate GDR league , and who had just missed promotion to the top division in the previous season with second place. Korn's first league season ended disappointingly with a final seventh place. At the beginning of 1966 the soccer section of the TSC was spun off and converted into 1. FC Union Berlin. At the end of the 1965/66 season, FC had reached first place in the northern relay of the GDR league and thus rose to the top division. Korn had already won a regular place in the Unioner's defensive row this season and played most of the 30 point games.

Korn started successfully in his first league season 1966/67, because he played all 13 point games of the Hinserie. Usually he was called up as a central defender. In the second half of the season he could only be used four times at the end of the season due to injury. By the end of 1968, his career was repeatedly marked by failures, so that he was only able to play 25 of the 39 league games played. So he missed the victorious cup final in 1968, which the Unioners won 2-1 over FC Carl Zeiss Jena . However, Korn had previously contributed to the success in four cup matches. In the second half of the season 1968/69 he played again all 13 point games, but could not prevent his team from relegating from the league at the end of the season. Then Union organized a march through the GDR league and rose again after a year. Korn was involved with 29 missions in a total of 30 point games.

At the beginning of the league season 1970/71 Korn took over the position of the left full-back. On the 10th match day, Korn had played seven point games so far, it came to the Berlin derby BFC Dynamo - 1. FC Union. After the emotional game, Korn was accused by BFC players of insulting them as "Stasi pigs" and "Stasivieh" as well as "Dynamo pigs". The allegations were taken up by the legal commission of the GDR soccer association, which then imposed a lifelong ban on competitive sports. Before that, Korn had played his last league game on November 18, 1970 when 1. FC Union - Stahl Riesa (1-0). It was his 57th appearance in the league, with which he had to end his first division career at the age of 28.

After an interlude with the Frankfurt district league club BSG Stahl Finow , Korn later played for BSG KWO Berlin , with which he rose to the district league in 1978 and the GDR league in 1979. At the end of the 1979/80 season, Korn finally ended his career as a football player at the age of 38.
