Klaus Lefringhausen (born March 6, 1934 in Mettmann ; † April 17, 2009 in Namibia ) was the North-South Commissioner and Integration Commissioner for several state governments in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Life

Lefringhausen studied economics and social sciences in Cologne. In the area of ​​the Protestant Church he performed a variety of tasks. In 1969, for example, he set up the Social Science Institute for the Evangelical Church in Bochum . From 1971 he was managing director of the German Forum for Development Policy appointed by the then Federal President Gustav Heinemann . He then served as executive director of the Joint Conference of Churches on Development. From 1995 to 2000 he was North-South Commissioner of the NRW Prime Minister, from 2002 to 2005 Integration Commissioner of the State Government. After resigning from this position, he took over the chairmanship of the board of trustees of the Central Institute of Islam Archive Germany in Soest.

Together with Jörgen Nieland, he set up the working group on religion and integration. In 2008, both published an anthology on the topic of steps towards a culture of togetherness. A dialogue about dialogue . In March 2008, Lefringhausen was elected Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Muhammad Nafi Tschelebi Prize . He died together with Jörgen Nieland in a car accident in Namibia.
