Klaus Lorig (born March 20, 1952 ) is a German local politician ( CDU ). He was Lord Mayor of Völklingen from 2003 to 2018 .

Life

Klaus Lorig was elected Lord Mayor of Völklingen in 2003. He was just able to prevail in a runoff election against the SPD candidate Karl-Heinz Schäffner. In 2010 he was re-elected. During his tenure, he was involved in setting up the cost-intensive marine fish farm in Völklingen , which put a heavy burden on the city's costs and also led to criticism of his administration.

During this time he was three times President and three times Deputy President of the Saarland City and Municipal Association (SSGT). Among other things, he represented the SSGT in the negotiations on the Saar municipal package in 2015 with the state and was in the process of reaching an agreement between the state and the municipalities on the distribution of federal funds to relieve the state and the municipal level of refugee costs.

Shortly after his 65th birthday, he decided to end his term as Lord Mayor early. He cited “family reasons” as the reason for this decision. His successor was Christiane Blatt (SPD) on June 1, 2018 .

Private life

Klaus Lorig played guitar and sang in the oldie band Civil Service, which consisted of members of the Völklingen town hall. Lorig is married and has one son.
